El Primero - Tampico, Mexico

Hello everyone,
We finally made it to mexico. We started our adventure in downtown denver, taking a mexican bus line (los Paisanos) to el paso, TX. This ride was about 11 hours and went by quickly as we slept most of the time. We arrived in El Paso at sunrise and paid 5 dollars to take a bus accross the border. There was no checking of passport, visa, or ID. No one even came on the bus. We stopped for about a minute and then passed right on thru to Juarez Mexico. In the bus station we bought a ticket to Tampico, Mexico and the bus left about one hour later at 8 AM. The next 24 hours we spent on the bus traveling south. Stopping in Chihuahua, Torreon, Saltillo, Monterrey, and many more stops for about 15 minutes each. We finally made it to tampico on the 28th in the morning.

It is a beautiful town and the weather is wonderful. The first thing we did was walk accross the street to get some great mexican food. Kenny had juevos con frijoles y arroz and I had a quessadilla con frijoles. Pretty much all we have eaten is tortillas, cheese and bean with some chicken tossed in here and there. It is amazing food! Then we went to the beach in Tampico for a little while. It was called Playa Miramar. The best part was that kenny left our towel and bathing suits in the taxi. So we bought new ones on the beach for $60 pesos (about 6 dollars). The beach was beautiful but very windy so we went to the centro de Tampico. This was very beautiful and there was a lot of people and shops around.

The reason we are in Tampico is to see a friend, Jenna, get married to a new friend Alejandro. We met alejandro in the centro and took a taxi to his friends house in Alta Mira, which is just south of Tampico. His mother had food waiting for us. Everyone here is so generous and friendly. I have been struggling to communicate with my broken spanish but kenny is doing pretty well with his.

That night we went to la casa de alex in a little town called Los Lomas del Real. It is a beautiful small town with about 2000 people, lots of dogs, no paved streets and a lot of kind family members. We set up a tent in their back yard and had a good nights rest. Now we are back in alta mira shopping for jennas wedding.

Well we have to go. We are safe and having a great time. FOod is good and everything is beautiful. Take care
Buenos Dias,
Mike and Kenny

Sounds like you guys are having a great time. I am envious of that warm weather and beaches. It is 18 degrees here today.
Good news is I am going right outside my door to cross country ski after I finish this. Robert went up to Eldora today with Brodie.

Enjoy that wedding I hear mexican celebrations can go on for days. Love, MOM
